A WONDERful Tradition...
Since 1976, ShareLife Catholic agencies have provided unconditional care and support for the troubled, vulnerable and needy in our communities and around the world. For many of our recipients, a ShareLife agency represents a lifeline. The child who receives comfort during a time of distress, the recovering alcoholic who’s life is back on track, the woman who finally broke free from abuse and violence ... these are some of the real life situations and sources of inspiration our agencies encounter everyday. Daily, we receive such stories of transformation and success. Last year, over 225,000 people availed themselves of the services of our social services agencies. We invite you, as part of our family of faith, to “ShareLife” once again in 2010.
We have an opportunity this year to boost support for the campaign, on the heels of a massive $3.7 million disaster relief response in the archdiocese. A generous donor has offered to match all new and increased contributions to ShareLife for this campaign year, up to $500,000! The success of this matching gift program, known as the ShareLife Community Challenge, will depend largely on your participation.. We are very thankful for this gracious gesture, motivated by a desire to support the work of our agencies and to see the campaign do well. With your help, our parishes raised $11.4 million in 2009 – the parish campaign goal was $12 million. Overall, a total of $13.7 million was raised through ShareLife campaigns to help those in need. While we were able to meet the allocations to our agencies in 2009, the demand for the services and support continues to grow. ShareLife social service agencies identified more than $800,000 in unmet needs this year. The resulting increase in contributions from the Challenge could help in many ways, shortening waiting lists, opening new shelter beds, and serving more meals for those in need around us. ShareLIfe’s Community Challenge is a wonderful opportunity to maximize the impact of the donors’ gifts this year.
