Frequently Asked Questions

As an agency that funds many social service organizations in Toronto, why is ShareLife not amalgamated with the United Way of Greater Toronto?

Prior to 1976, the agencies of Catholic Charities were part of the United Way. In 1976, Archbishop Pocock withdrew Catholic Charities because the United Way began funding Planned Parenthood, an agency involved in pro-choice activities.  ShareLife is committed to life at all stages and our agencies reflect these values.

Fiscal responsibility is important to me. What percentage of my donation goes directly to assist those most in need?

It's important for donors to research this area. ShareLife ensures that 91 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to support our 30 social service agencies. This ratio makes ShareLife a leader in the charitable sector across the country.  If you would like more information on ShareLife's financials, click here to see the Corporate Campaign Financial Activity Statement.

Is ShareLife only helping Catholics?

No. Our agencies help all those in need regardless of their religious affiliation. ShareLife agencies have an open intake policy and will assist more than 200,000 people in need over the next year.

As a corporation, how can we help ShareLife? Is there an outlet for our employees to give?

Both corporations and their employees are encouraged to support our annual ShareLife Appeal. Your company may make a lump sum donation and employees may contribute through a payroll deduction campaign. Contact the ShareLife office if you'd like to set up a workplace appeal.

What sort of recognition programs are available?

Each year, our top donors are publicly identified in the Catholic Register and the Globe and Mail. In addition, our annual report serves to recognize our top donors and emphasize our growing relationship with corporate partners. Sponsorship opportunities are available with respect to our annual golf tournament, high school initiatives and other special programs.
