When Brittany, 7, left Vietnam with her mother to join her father in Canada, she could have never imagined the struggles she would have to endure. Within the first year of arriving, Brittany’s father became violent and abusive. After enduring numerous unspeakable acts, she was removed from her family and placed into the care of Children’s Aid. Bounced from one short-term placement after another, she eventually found stability in a foster treatment program with Pelletier Homes for Youth.

At 15, Brittany found a surrogate family to gave her love, protection and hope. Her foster parents became her greatest advocates as she dealt with the legal system and with the issues surrounding the abuse she suffered. They never gave up on her.

Brittany has now completed her secondary school diploma, a milestone that less than 1% of foster children ever achieve. Finishing high school was not easy as she commuted to a neighboring city every day to attend a school where she felt comfortable and accepted.

With aspirations to attend college, Brittany is well on her way to living a safe, healthy and productive life with the help of Pelletier Homes and funding from ShareLife.
