New PSAs in the Works

ShareLife is working on new Public Service Announcements (PSAs) - our radio and TV commercials that broadcasters generously donate airtime to us to play them. We’re in the midst of producing two new radio commercials, which should start airing in the fall. We’ll place them on the website for you to listen to once they’re ready. We’d like to thank all the radio and TV stations who have aired our commercial in the past and hope we can count on your continued support and generosity with our new spots.

Listen Up ...

Our ShareLife Public Service Announcements (PSAs) have been sent to local radio, TV and newspapers. We've received great response from the media airing and printing these ads in the past. As is the case with any PSA, stations donate the air time or newspaper space for them, so their generosity is greatly appreciated. Let us know if you see or hear the ads so that we can properly thank media who are helping us help others.

Volunteers Needed

One of our agencies – Covenant House – is looking for volunteers. They’re asking for people to come put there compassion in action and see what a difference 13 months can make. Covenant House would like you to consider joining their volunteer program to work with homeless youth, pray daily and live simply in community. They will have an orientation session in Toronto on May 12-15. For further information, contact Michele at faithmail@covenanthouse.on.ca or at 416-598-4898 ext-6205.

You Asked for It ... You Got It!

Thanks to Barbara G. of Corpus Christi Parish and J.E. Troy of St. John Chrysostom Parish and others who asked us if we could include an easy-to-use downloadable 'clipart' section on our web site. (We told you we read the Discussion Forum). Well, your wish is our command. Go to the parish campaign section of the web site and then click on the "Download Clipart" section on your right. Or better yet, click here and start browsing the clipart available to you for your parish bulletins. It is very user-friendly and there is something there for every week of the campaign. Thanks for the feedback and keep the great suggestions like this coming.

ShareLife to Channel Humanitarian Aid to Iraq

(March 21, 2003) ShareLife, the charitable fundraising arm of the Archdiocese of Toronto, announced today that it will channel funds to support humanitarian efforts underway in Iraq.

Aloysius Cardinal Ambrozic, Archbishop of Toronto remarked, "Our family of faith, together with those around the world, unite to offer prayers for peace in Iraq. We also recognize the need to care for those displaced persons who will be without the most basic necessities. We respond financially, along with the hope and prayer that peace will soon return to the region."

Funds collected will be used to meet the basic needs of the Iraqi people, providing medicine, drinking water, blankets and food. Monies will be channelled through the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP), the emergency aid and international development arm of the Canadian Catholic Church.

ShareLife Channels Funds to Assist Victims of Bam, Iran Earthquake

(December 30, 2003) ShareLife has announced that it will channel funds to assist those affected by the devastating earthquake in Bam, Iran. The December 26th quake, which registered 6.7 on the Richter Scale, claimed the lives of an estimated 25,000 people and destroyed 70% of the buildings in the area. Thousands of families have been left homeless during the cold winter months in southern Iran.

ShareLife’s Executive Director, Terry Thompson, expressed his concern for the earthquake victims: "First and foremost, we send our thoughts and prayers to all those who have been affected by this tragic disaster. We will work diligently to ensure relief funds are channeled effectively and responsibly through our international partners to assist the victims and the rebuilding efforts that will continue over the coming months."
