St. Augustine's Seminary trains men for the
priesthood and the diaconate. Seminarians attend classes at Toronto
School of Theology, studying such subjects as Scripture, Christology,
Sacraments, the Trinity and grace, biomedical ethics, canon law, and
parish administration. St. Augustine's itself was built in 1913 and
today the classrooms are used by such groups as the Permanent Diaconate
and Ministry to the Deaf. In the first 75 years, 1,800 men have
graduated. The majority have become parish priests. Some have worked in
jails, hospitals and schools. Many have gone on to achieve higher
academic degrees and thirty were consecrated bishops.
