ShareLife recognizes faithful supporters

The second annual ShareLife Mass and Recognition Reception was hosted Sept 14 on the grounds of the Cathedral for patrons of ShareLife. This year, Toronto Auxiliary Bishop William McGrattan presided over the celebration, which fell on the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross

At a small reception after the Mass, Robert and Andrea Chisholm were honoured as the 2011 recipients of the Bishop Michael Power Award. The Chisholm family has participated in the ShareLife campaign for decades, supporting both the parish and the corporate campaigns, both personally and through their family-directed foundation. Mr. Chisholm has also been a corporate canvasser and was the Corporate Campaign Chair in 1999 and 2000. As vice-chairman of Scotiabank, he also advocated on behalf of ShareLife to secure support for the annual corporate appeal and the annual ShareLife golf tournament. ShareLife continues to enjoy their gracious support to this day.

Last year’s inaugural recipient of the Bishop Michael Power Award was the late Joseph Pope.

Award winner designates ShareLife for charitable gift

When Joseph Chu attended a recent sales convention for Sun Life Financial, he had no idea he was going to receive a prestigious honour. When he did, however, he knew where he wanted his good fortune to be designated – ShareLife.

Mr. Chu, the financial centre manager for Sun Life Financial’s Scarborough branch, was inducted into Sun Life’s Career Sales Force Hall of Fame – the highest honour the company awards to its advisors and managers. As part of the honour, Sun Life asked Mr. Chu to designate one or more charities for an overall gift of $15,000. We’re grateful he chose ShareLife as the recipient of $10,000.

"We want people to know that we have a responsibility to help others. Through ShareLife, we can help so many people,” says Mr. Chu. “We think the work you are doing is great.”

In an extraordinary gesture, Mr. Chu and his wife, Poling, have personally matched Sun Life’s designated gift, contributing an additional $10,000 to the 2011 ShareLife campaign. “The point is to be grateful that you can do something to give back,” says Mrs. Chu. “We believe in doing our part.”

We are grateful to Sun Life Financial for its commitment to supporting the communities they serve, through the grant associated with its Hall of Fame award. And we are truly grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Chu for their generous support of ShareLife and its family of Catholic agencies. (back to top)

Golf Tournament net proceeds reach $70,000+

Thanks to the hard work of the Golf Committee, preliminary counts estimate that we raised over $70,000 (net of expenses) for the 16th Annual ShareLife Golf Tournament. A total of over 150 golfers participated in the tournament and thereafter joined the dinner. Sponsorships and the sale of silent auction items likewise added to the overall total raised. Blessed by perfect weather, the event was both fun and successful.
